Dweling place

By Jim Murriner

Ps 90:1 "A Prayer of Moses the man of God., Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations."
2 "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God."

First we need to note that Moses in his prayer here addresses the all Sovereign God as "Lord"
The Hebrew word used here for "Lord" is the word "Adonai" which is a plural word, denoting all three persons of the Godhead.
This word which is translated "Lord" here also expresses the thought of the relationship of master and slave.
This word is most often translated "My Lord" in the KJV.
Moses was not just praying to every ones Lord, but The Lord was special unto him, The Lord of Heaven and of Earth, was his Lord.
The Lord needs to also be special to you today. It is not at all important that He is the Lord of others.
Do you hold Him special as YOUR Lord?
You are not saved by believing in Christ as the Savior of the whole world.
But you are Saved If God has given you faith to believe in Christ as your personal savior.
I."Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
"dwelling place"
Moses here is not bragging about his people dwelling in the Lord, but rather is comparing the things that we have in our dwelling place or "habitation" to the attributes of God.
Our habitation, our home our dwelling place is a special place to us, as indeed the Lord, Our Lord should also be very very special unto us.
A.Our home is a place of rest.
We who are saved have found rest in Jesus.
Heb. 3:15 -- 4:3 This speaks of our rest we have in Jesus, because He has saved us .

Heb 3:15 "While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation."
16 "For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses."
17 "But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?"
18 "And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?"
19 "So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief."
4:1 "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it."
2 "For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it".
3 "For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world."
There is also a resting which the people of God need to do after they are saved.

Ps 37:7 "Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass."

Php 4:6 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."

B.Our home is a place of protection
God also is our protection. He is the protection for all who are saved., otherwise we would not stay saved.
Ps 91:1 " He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
2 "I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust."

C.Our home is a place of comfort.
God also is our source of comfort.
Ps 23:4 "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

Is God your dwelling place today, or do you make other thing to be your dwelling place?
Our dwelling place is that place that we look forward to going at the end of the day.
Do you look forward to the things of God, or do you find them somewhat distasteful.
When one is away from home he will often think of home.
What is it that you think of all daylong?
Do you thing of the things of God, or do you think of friends and family, more than the Lord and His people?
Can we truly say that God is our dwelling place when we will side with our families against the Lord's church?
When family comes to visit us, do we take them to the house of God, or do we stay home with them?
When our family members are worthy of being disciplined from the church, do we defend them, or will we be the one to try to lead them away from the sin that they are in , and then if they will not repent, will we be the one to ask the church to discipline them.
If we cannot take these steps, then our families are our dwelling place and not God.
Can we truly say that God is our dwelling place when the main thing in our life is our money and how we can get more , with no regard for what the Word of God has to say about honesty.?
Is God our dwelling place or is money our dwelling place ?
We should think so much of God that He is in all our ways, influencing the decisions that we make, and the things that we do.
If you find it easy to look to these other things for your rest, protection, and comfort, then you need to examine yourself to see if you are saved.
You are only saved if you have your "Faith " in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior.
If your are trusting your works, baptism , Lords Supper, church membership, prayer or asking Jesus to come into your heart The need for you today is that you would place your faith in the finished work of Christ .

I.How long has the Lord been our dwelling place?
A. "Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.."
This speaks of the eternity of God.
Lord, you always have been the only rest -- You have always been the only peace that we could find.
De 33:27 "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them."

A.How long has it been true that God has been our dwelling place in all generations?
Vs. 2 "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God."
Eph 1:4" According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:"
1.      even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
He has been our dwelling place in all generations, because from everlasting to everlasting He is God.
He is God in eternity past and in the present and is God in eternity future.
He has been and is our dwelling place because of the nature of Who He is.
2. Notice too that Moses does not say Thou wast God, but Thou art God
This too shows the eternity of God.
Ex 3:14 "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."

Joh 8:58 "Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
